life with a 2 year old

after arriving home from work, i notice a bucket in the guest restroom.

i ask my wife: why is there a bucket in the guest restroom by the commode?

wife: there isn't. why do you ask?

hmmmm. water is so darned cool when you are two. what is one of the coolest water sources in the house?

about 2 months ago after being on vacation with the family, we returned and my daughter discovered a lizard (a green anole) on the kitchen floor. she has been talking about a pet, so it occurred to me that this lizard who was probably starving would make a great FREE pet.

what i couldn't figure out was why it didn't seem to eat the grass we gave it. after studying on the internet it turns out that a green anole is a meat eater. not carion mind you, but it has to be alive.

so we buy it crickets. my first cricket batch i bought on a wednesday night to get 'lizzie' some emergency food. i though surely they would live until saturday when i could set something better up. they didn't. it turns out crickets need to eat... and drink. now i'm finding out that they are BIG eaters and drinkers and consequently, big, how should i say, 'crappers'. they really make a mess of their little cage.

well that brings me back to lizzie. turns out she's a big eater and consequently a big, ahem, crapper. much like bird droppings, but much smaller.

so i mow the lawn this weekend and i had about 5 of those big home depot free standing lawn refuse bags full of leaves leaning against the house. i moved two and i noticed a little tiny thing against the house that looked very much like a 'lizzie dropping'. i got to smiling at myself as i moved the bags to the curb, even chastising myself for even thinking that i could spot a lizard dropping in the big outdoors for there are plenty of birds around too.

so i went back and grabbed two more bags and lo and behold, what did i see? yep, a great big gecko.
